Accreditation & Participation
Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), Amsterdam, Holland
Casa Montessori has been continuously recognized by the Association Montessori Internationale since it’s beginning. The AMI was founded in 1929 by Maria Montessori to preserve Montessori educational standards and promote the rights of the child internationally. Mrs. Trochta currently serves on the Advisory Council to the Board of Directors of the AMI. AMI recognition requires that each class is led by an AMI-trained teacher for the appropriate age-level, has a complete set of approved Montessori materials and has a mixed 3-year age span in each class. To maintain recognition, an approved consultant must visit the school every three years.
North American Montessori Teachers Association (NAMTA), Burton, OH
Casa Montessori maintains memberships for its AMI teachers in NAMTA. NAMTA provides annual conferences on a wide range of topics. Mrs. Trochta served on the founding Board of NAMTA from 1970-1975. Casa teachers attend NAMTA conferences to meet continuing education requirements. In addition, NAMTA offers a wide range of print and video resources for teachers, parents and anyone interested in learning more about Montessori.
Montessori Administrators’ Association (MAA), Portland, OR
A recent affiliate of AMI, the Montessori Administrators Association was founded to support heads of schools. It sponsors annual retreats for administrators to come together to discuss current problem areas, and encourages projects to bring Montessori educational philosophy to the wider population. Mrs. Trochta and Mrs. Winters are members of the MAA.
