The purpose of Casa Montessori’s parent programs is to bring us together as a community of caring adults, working together for the children in our lives. From parent education to volunteering for a Casa event, there are many opportunities to become involved in your child’s home away from home. Many lasting friendships have begun while participating in a Casa picnic or parent education class.
Parent Education Classes
Beginning with the Silent Journey in the Fall, parents are encouraged to attend scheduled classes for parents only. Held on Saturday mornings, you will learn the theory behind the materials in the Montessori Environment and have the chance to “play” with them as your child does. Child care is usually available for children enrolled at Casa Montessori and space must be reserved. Additional topics of interest to parents of young children, such as the child in nature, preparing the home environment, the Montessori approach to freedom within limits, and the role of the media in childhood, are offered throughout the year. These are usually Tuesday evenings or a weekday morning allowing parents to choose the time most convenient for them.
Coffee & Conversation
One day each month, parents come together to visit and share a cup of coffee or tea. The mood is casual as parents drop in after saying goodbye to their child at morning arrival. We talk about the latest trends in education, an upcoming event or explore a particular area of the Montessori prepared environment. And, sometimes, we just chat!
There is a Parent Library in the office. There are books by and about Maria Montessori and her approach to education, books by noted current authors about early child development and education, books about enrichment topics that benefit our young children and family life, and books about important topics that may affect the lives of young children, such as birth, death, divorce, spiritual and religious beliefs. Books may be checked out for a 2-week period, and renewed for another 2-week period.
